A banker’s work can be forgotten, a farmer’s presence erased. But, Mary Olson Loyland accepts neither.

Mary, the daughter of a banker and wife of a farmer, had always made memorial gifts when friends or family members passed. She decided to direct her memorial gifts to a family endowment fund to assure the charities near and dear to her heart will always have her support long after she is gone.

Through the Community Foundation, Mary created the Mary Olson Loyland Fund, a donor advised fund to honor both her late father and husband with directed giving. The financial gifts from Mary’s fund support a variety of organizations she wishes to show comfort and thanks to, such as the East Walle Cemetery.

Mary not only wanted to create a remembrance of her past, but also instill a legacy for her future. So, she created the PIGGY program – Partners in Giving Guiding Our Youth – an endowment program she to specifically engage her grandsons. Her Loyland-Asbury Grandson’s PIGGY Fund aims to help her grandsons identify their individual passion, show support for their community, and develop a sense of philanthropy by giving back.

By setting up personalized giving funds through the Community Foundation, Mary is creating a lasting legacy for her and her family, giving back to the community she loves, and continuing to grow her charitable assets for lifetimes to come.
