Judy Lee DeMers, R.N., B.S.N., M.Ed

A former North Dakota State Representative (District 17-18 from 1982-1992) and Senator (District 18 from 1992-2000), Ms. DeMers pushed the bar forward for women in North Dakota, paving the way for women to run for office in our state government. She continues to break down barriers for women today. Ms. DeMers serves as Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Admissions, University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Ethel Torreson Stone (1912-2007)

Ms. Stone, creator of the Ethel Torreson Stone Entrepreneur Endowment to support women entrepreneurs through the UND Center for Innovation, was no stranger to barriers. An ace pilot, and former owner of Torreson Oil Company, Ethel was pumping gas in the days when it was improper for a woman to do so. She believed that customer service is valuable and had a history of dealing shrewdly but gracefully in a very competitive industry - the man's world of gas stations.
